Shavkat Mirziyoyev Signs Law Expanding Rights of Parliamentary Opposition
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a law expanding the guaranteed rights of the parliamentary opposition.
According to the document, a number of legislative acts have been amended and supplemented to strengthen the role of the parliamentary faction of a political party that has declared itself in opposition.
From now on, representatives of such a faction will have the right to hold the positions of one committee chair and two deputy chairs in the Legislative Chamber.
In addition, they will be granted the ability to submit an alternative version of a draft law or parts of it before its consideration in the second reading, as well as to make proposals during “Government Hour” and to submit a parliamentary inquiry once per quarter.
The law enters into force on the day of its official publication.
