Shavkat Mirziyoyev signs decree on formation of Presidential schools

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyev signed a resolution “On measures for creation of Presidential schools” on 20 February 2019. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan.

The main goal of the Presidential schools is to train and educate gifted children of the Republic of Uzbekistan using advanced technologies in the educational process, to stimulate talented young people, as well as their further support.

Presidential schools will be formed in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, as well as in all regions and in the city of Tashkent of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the form of state specialized educational institutions. It was noted that in 2019, the construction of the first schools will be in three cities at once, in Tashkent and Nukus, as well as in Khorezm region.

In turn, in 2020 it is planned to build Presidential schools in Bukhara, Jizzakh, Kashkadarya, Samarkand and Ferghana regions, and in 2021 in Andijan, Navoi, Namangan, Surkhandarya, Syrdarya and Tashkent regions, respectively.

Admission to Presidential schools will be carried out according to the results of tests for logical thinking, a written exam and interviews from among graduates of the 4th grade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, who will be selected by the Ministry of Public Education in the prescribed manner.

In the first academic year, the total number of students enrolled in grades 5-10 will be 144 students. The annual admission quota will be 24 students. In one class. there will be 12 students.

The process of teaching at the Presidential schools is carried out in English language under the STEAM - education program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics), which will enable talented youth to further develop their thinking, willpower, creativity and flexibility.

Depending on interests and peculiarities, students will study in individual programmes in grades 9-11.

Graduates of Presidential schools, in addition to the state-approved education, receive a diploma of a corresponding international level program (International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement or International Advanced Levels), which provides an opportunity to enter leading foreign higher educational institutions.

On 18 November 2018, the President of Uzbekistan during a meeting in the city of Nukus, announced the organization of Presidential schools in each region.
