Shavkat Mirziyoyev meets with President of the International Judo Federation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 27 February, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Marius Vizer, President of the International Judo Federation, who visited the country as part of the prestigious Grand Slam tournament.
During the talks, discussions focused on strengthening cooperation with the federation, developing Uzbekistan’s national judo school, and promoting the sport in the country.
Uzbekistan has been actively participating in international competitions. In 2022, the country hosted the World Judo Championships for senior athletes, followed by the World Military Judo Championships in 2023. Moreover, at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Diyora Keldiyorova made history by winning Uzbekistan’s first-ever Olympic gold medal in judo.
Marius Vizer highlighted the large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan’s sports sector, emphasizing the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, youth engagement—including among girls—and the development of sports infrastructure.
The parties discussed technical assistance in training athletes, coaches, and referees, as well as the implementation of effective talent selection mechanisms. There was also a proposal to hold international judo tournaments in various regions of Uzbekistan.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Mirziyoyev awarded Marius Vizer the “Dustlik” (Friendship) Order in recognition of his contributions to the development of Uzbekistan’s national judo school.
