Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulates veterans of war and labor

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A festive event dedicated to the Day of Remembrance and Honor and the 73rd anniversary of victory in World War II took place at the Tashkent Botanical Garden.

It was attended by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The atmosphere of the war years has been created in the garden. Trenches and dug-outs were built, weapons and military equipment of the World War II were demonstrated. The head of state familiarized with the exhibition, the presidential press service said.

The World War II, which became the most monstrous and bloody in the history of mankind, brought many suffering and hardship to our people, and caused innumerable victims. Almost half of the able-bodied population of Uzbekistan participated in this merciless war, more than 500,000 of them died on the battlefields. Many returned disabled, and some of them were missing.

Our people sheltered about a million people, including 200 thousand children, evacuated from the frontline areas. Here they were met as relatives, shared with them the last piece of bread, brought up as native children. The whole world recognized the magnanimity and nobility of our people, its colossal contribution to the victory over fascism. 9 May - the day of the end of the World War II - is celebrated in Uzbekistan as a national holiday.

Veterans of war and labor from the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the regions took part in the festive event.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated all veterans, all our people with 9 May - Day of Remembrance and Honor, on the 73rd anniversary of victory in the World War II.

The concert programme were presented to the participants of the festive event.
