Several Temporary Detention Facilities Closed in Tashkent Region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The activity of several temporary detention facilities (TDFs) in Tashkent region has been discontinued, the press service of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Oliy Majlis reported.

Monitoring visits to TDFs in the Kuyichirchik and Chinaz districts were conducted in June by the regional representative of the Ombudsman together with public organizations. Inspections revealed shortcomings, and the Ombudsman sent a corresponding recommendation to the Minister of Internal Affairs.

On July 21, the Minister of Internal Affairs ordered the closure of TDFs in the Chinaz, Kibray, and Yukorichirchik districts, which did not meet sanitary and hygienic standards.

At the same time, major improvements were made at the TDF of the Kuyichirchik District Department of Internal Affairs: a ventilation system and radio communication were installed, cells were equipped with necessary facilities, and sanitary units and the exercise yard were brought in line with hygiene standards.

According to the Ombudsman, these measures aim to ensure proper detention conditions and protect citizens’ rights in temporary detention facilities.
