Seoul Hosts Preparatory Meeting for Korea–Central Asia Summit

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 10 April 2026, the first meeting of senior officials dedicated to the preparations for the inaugural summit of the heads of state of the Republic of Korea and Central Asian countries took place in Seoul.

The event was attended by deputy foreign ministers from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and the Republic of Korea. Uzbekistan was represented at the meeting by Olimjon Abdullaev.

As the host of the upcoming summit, the South Korean side presented the conceptual framework and primary organizational approaches for the event. The participants exchanged views on shaping the cooperation agenda between South Korea and the Central Asian states. They emphasized the importance of equal and mutually beneficial interaction, rooted in historical and cultural ties and oriented toward long-term development.

Following the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue working in this format to ensure the substantive content of the program for the first Korea–Central Asia heads of state summit.

As part of the visit, a separate meeting was held between the heads of the Central Asian delegations and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea, Cho Tae-yul. The parties emphasized that the forthcoming summit will represent a new milestone in the development of cooperation between the region and South Korea.
