Senior Law Enforcement Officer Detained in Khorezm Region for Receiving US$30,000

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In the Khorezm region, law enforcement authorities detained a senior operative of the Regional Department of Internal Affairs’ Operational Investigation Service.

The State Security Service press office reported the incident.

According to the agency, the officer promised a citizen that, for a bribe, he would use his “high-ranking contacts” in the regional administration to assist in obtaining permission to build a residential house on a 12-sot land plot in Khiva.

The plot had originally been allocated for agricultural use and was not intended for residential construction.

The suspect was caught in the act while receiving US$30,000.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 168, Part 4, Item “a” (fraud on a particularly large scale), and under Article 211, Part 3, Item “a” in conjunction with Article 28 (bribery).

The detainee has been remanded in custody. Investigative actions are ongoing.
