Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A working group formed by the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan on agricultural, water management, and environmental issues conducted a study on measures to reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere in the Navoi region.

As part of the monitoring, the group examined the operations of major industrial enterprises in the region — the joint-stock companies NavoiAzot and Navoi Thermal Power Plant.

Special attention was given to environmental sustainability initiatives, reduction of harmful emissions, and environmental protection measures implemented at these facilities.

At NavoiAzot JSC, an ecological monitoring system has been introduced, including three automatic stations and 28 stationary observation points located in Navoi city and the adjacent Karmaninsky district.

Additionally, a green belt is being developed around the enterprise, and wastewater treatment facilities are operational and were reviewed during the visit.

At Navoi Thermal Power Plant JSC, located in Karmaninsky district, two automatic stations monitor emissions into the atmosphere.

Within the framework of the nationwide project “Yashil Makon”, decorative trees were planted along the M-37 highway on 50 hectares, creating a green zone.

Both enterprises are working to implement modern systems for automatic sampling from pollution sources with a heightened ecological risk.

Following the study, the working group developed several practical recommendations. In particular, it emphasized the need to expand green belts around major industrial facilities, implement modern continuous air quality monitoring systems, and enhance early warning systems for the public about adverse hydrometeorological conditions and elevated air pollution levels.
