Senator Shukhrat Ganiev receives a strict warning

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 30 September 2019, an expanded meeting of the Senate Commission of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on regulations and ethics was held.

The meeting was chaired by the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzil Narbaev.

As part of the agenda, the issue of senatorial activity of the khokim of Ferghana region, Senator Shukhrat Ganiev was considered.

Khokim of Ferghana region, Senator Sh. Ganiev at a meeting held with the participation of heads of local executive authorities and activists, used phrases that infringe on the legitimate rights and interests of citizens, degrading their honor and dignity, which caused a wide negative resonance in social networks and caused legitimate comments of the population.

Article 11 of the Law “On the status of a deputy of the Legislative Chamber and a member of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan” stipulates that a deputy, senator must strictly observe ethical rules.

In accordance with these rules of the Senate, the senator must strictly observe generally accepted principles of ethics and morality, respect the rights, honor and dignity or business reputation of citizens, officials, and also refrain from actions defaming the name of the senator.

It is envisaged that in cases where the senator does not comply with the above ethical rules, his activity is considered by the Senate Commission on Rules and Ethics and, if necessary, appropriate measures are taken.

Based on the above requirements, the Senate Commission of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on regulations and ethics in relation to the khokim of Ferghana region, Senator Shukhrat Ganiev identified the measure in the form of a strict warning with a three-month trial period.
