Senate Sends Inquiry to Minister of Energy Over Power Supply Problems in the Capital

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Senate of Uzbekistan has sent a parliamentary inquiry to Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamahmudov in connection with the growing number of power outages in Tashkent.

According to senators, outages lasting 3–4 hours are seriously affecting the daily lives of residents, the operation of social facilities, and business activities. Malfunctions of traffic lights pose risks to road safety, while the failure of cooling systems in industrial and commercial facilities is causing significant financial losses. Household appliances in residential buildings have also been reported damaged.

In accordance with Article 39 of the Law “On Electric Power Industry,” citizens are entitled to a stable and high-quality electricity supply. At the same time, Article 61 of the law permits suspension or restriction of electricity supply only to prevent accidents or eliminate emergency situations.

In this regard, Sayyora Abdikarimova, Deputy Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Agricultural, Water Management Issues and Ecology, submitted an inquiry to the Minister of Energy requesting an explanation of the situation.
