Senate of Uzbekistan Ratifies Global Convention on Education
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During its eleventh plenary session, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis considered and approved the law “On the Ratification of the Global Convention on the Recognition of Higher Education Qualifications” (Paris, 25 November 2019).
The law is aimed at strengthening the international integration of national education systems and establishing uniform rules for recognizing qualifications obtained in higher education across different countries. The Convention provides for universal recognition of educational documents and facilitates the academic and professional recognition of diplomas, certificates, and other qualifications.
As the first UN international treaty in the field of higher education, the Global Convention establishes universal mechanisms for fair and transparent assessment of educational documents, promotes interregional academic mobility, and supports the free movement of students, faculty, and researchers.
It codifies general principles for recognizing qualifications and ensures closer cooperation between countries in the educational sphere.
Senators emphasized that ratifying this document represents an important step in integrating Uzbekistan into the global educational space.
The adoption of the law will create additional opportunities for citizens to pursue education abroad, enhance the competitiveness of the national higher education system, and expand graduates’ access to the international labor market.
Moreover, the Convention is viewed as a significant legal foundation for deepening international cooperation not only in education but also in labor migration, which is especially relevant in the context of globalization.
