Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - As previously reported, the twenty-fifth plenary meeting of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis is taking place today. Speaking at the meeting, Senate Chairperson of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbaeva summed up a brief summary of the activities of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis.

Tanzila Narbaeva, Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis said:

- Speaking about the past period, first of all, it is worth noting that the critical and analytical statements of the President of the country, voiced during a meeting with representatives of the chambers of the Oliy Majlis and political parties on 12 July 2017, became the basis for the start of a qualitatively new stage in the activities of representative bodies. In particular, the activity of the Senate has acquired a completely new content. The issues of creating the legal foundations of democratic reforms, protecting the interests of the regions, dialogue with the people, further expanding international and inter-parliamentary relations have taken priority in his work. To achieve these goals at a new stage in the development of the country, the Senate has been radically improved, new committees and structures on various issues have been created. Such changes in the system contributed to the further development of our activities in all areas.

As the Chairman of the Senate noted, today’s active development of legislative activity of the upper house corresponds to the pace of development and transformation of our country. If in 2010-2014 the Senate adopted 140 laws, then from 2015 to the present day more than 220 laws have been considered. It is noteworthy that 186 of these laws have been adopted over the past 3 years. This indicates the rapid pace of reforms in the country.
