Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 10 October, the Senate hosted a meeting of the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva with a delegation of heads of permanent missions to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in Vienna.
It was emphasized that under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in accordance with the Strategy of Action for the five priority areas for the development of Uzbekistan in 2017-2021, over the past years the country has achieved effective results in the implementation of the comprehensive and accelerated development of society and the state. Based on a constant and systematic dialogue with the people, new steps are being taken to ensure the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of citizens of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, guests were informed about the activities of the upper house of the country’s parliament. It was noted that in Uzbekistan, the issue of increasing the efficiency of the legislative body, the development and strengthening of the bicameral model, the stable and high-quality functioning of the Legislative Chamber and Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan is relevant. Measures are being taken to strengthen the role of parliament in the socio-political life of the country. Parliament becomes a genuine school of democracy, the initiator and decisive force in the implementation of reforms.
The implementation of this conceptual idea, the development of national parliamentarism, the increasing role of representative power in the socio-political life of Uzbekistan was given special attention in the Messages of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Oliy Majlis. Important measures have been taken to increase the authority and role of the chambers of the Oliy Majlis in the life of society and the state, and to create the necessary conditions for organizing their effective work.
It was noted that over the past period, in the process of systematic democratic transformations in Uzbekistan, the Senate, along with lawmaking, has done significant work to implement effective parliamentary oversight, study problems that concern people, and find solutions to them both at the legislative level and in practical terms.
Members of the delegation emphasized the intensification of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the OSCE, the participation of parliamentarians in the activities of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly in its annual sessions. There is a permanent delegation of Uzbekistan to the OSCE PA, formed on an equal footing from representatives of the Senate and the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis.
The openness of large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan, the implementation of direct dialogue with the people, and the importance of measures taken in Uzbekistan to ensure gender equality, strengthen the family, increase the socio-political activity of women, and prevent violence and harassment against women were also noted.
Members of the delegation were briefed on the progress in the preparation and conduct of parliamentary elections to be held in December this year.
