Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 16 January 2020, the chairperson of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Tanzili Narbaeva met a delegation of the World Bank led by Regional Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Cyril Muller.

During the meeting, an exchange of views on the prospects of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the World Bank took place. The World Bank is ready to cooperate with the new parliament, in particular, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis in terms of improving the legal framework for further liberalization of the national economy.

Cyril Muller praised the ongoing reforms in the country for the democratic renewal of the country under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh.M. Mirziyoyev. He congratulated The Economist on declaring Uzbekistan the “Country of the Year” in 2019.

The World Bank’s commitment to continue cooperation with Uzbekistan in attracting investment in various sectors of the economy, including financing activities in the field of education and health, as well as the implementation of joint projects in the digital economy, innovation and the creation of new jobs for women and youth in the framework of mahalla rim program.

It was noted that the World Bank supported the initiative of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis to finance women's entrepreneurship in rural areas, including women working at home. This project will be implemented as part of the JCD program.
