Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 28 January 2020, a meeting was held between Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to the Republic of Uzbekistan Timothy Torlow.
The Ambassador of Great Britain congratulated Tanzila Narbaeva on the election of the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and wished her success.
During the meeting, issues of further strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the UK were discussed, including on the agenda of inter-parliamentary cooperation. It was noted that cooperation between legislative bodies will continue to improve. This contributes to the expansion of bilateral trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties.
An exchange of views also took place regarding the outcome of the parliamentary elections, the further deepening of democratic reforms, and the intensification of contacts between friendship groups and non-governmental organizations.
Timothy Torlow focused on the upcoming joint events, in particular, the holding of a regular meeting of the Uzbek-British Council on Trade and Industry this year, which contributes to the development of mutually beneficial relations between the UK and Uzbekistan.
The parties expressed their readiness to maintain close cooperation in order to strengthen bilateral cooperation, and also agreed on the implementation of joint projects to strengthen the parliament’s potential and improve the electoral process.
