Senate Approves Law to Improve the Use of Field Margins

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At the 11th plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, senators reviewed and approved the Law “On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Connection with Improving the System of Cultivating Agricultural Products Along Field Margins.”

Senators emphasized that in recent years, Uzbekistan has been carrying out large-scale work to develop agriculture, ensure food security, and increase the sector’s export potential. However, the margins of agricultural fields often remain unused, which reduces land-use efficiency, affects the reliable supply of food to the population, and raises the production costs of agricultural products on the market.

The Law is aimed at improving agricultural management and ensuring the rational use of land by landowners, land users, and lessees. In particular, amendments to the Code of Administrative Responsibility introduce fines for failing to plant optimal agricultural crops on land plots along field edges, canals, irrigation and drainage networks that have been leased or subleased, within the timeframes established by law.

In addition, the Tax Code is supplemented with a provision stipulating that if land plots along field margins are not used for planting optimal crops, the land tax on the corresponding portion of the plot will be calculated at a triple rate.

Senators noted that the adoption of this Law will make it possible to organize agricultural production more efficiently, ensure the full and productive use of irrigated lands and adjacent areas, including those surrounding canals and irrigation systems.

The Law was approved by the Senate.
