Senate Approves Law to Enhance Government Transparency and Combat Corruption
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During its 13th plenary session, the Senate reviewed the Law “On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan.”
It was emphasized that in the New Uzbekistan, ensuring openness, transparency, and accountability in public administration remains a top priority. In recent years, consistent and systematic reforms have been carried out in the field of anti-corruption, and this law is seen as a logical continuation of those efforts.
The law establishes that individuals nominated for government positions, as well as candidates for the office of hokim (regional governor), are required not only to present their action programs but also to submit personal plans for preventing corruption. This measure aims to increase the accountability of leadership personnel and strengthen their commitment to principles of integrity.
In addition, the expansion of simplified procedures for filing lawsuits, as part of the judicial and legal reforms, facilitates access to the courts for both citizens and entrepreneurs.
Particular attention is given to provisions designed to improve the investment climate. For example, granting local government authorities the right to bring cases to court regarding violations in special economic and industrial zones without paying state fees is regarded as an important step toward effective protection of state interests.
In developing the law, the experience of foreign countries was taken into account, and the requirement to submit a separate anti-corruption plan fully aligns with international best practices.
Senators emphasized that the adoption of the law will contribute to increased public trust in the state, mark a new stage in the fight against corruption, enhance the efficiency of the judicial system, and create more favorable conditions for investors.
Following the discussion, the law was approved by the senators.
