Senate Approves Law Strengthening Protection of Children from Violence and Online Crimes
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At the 12th plenary session, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis reviewed the law “On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Connection with the Improvement of the System for Protecting Children from Violence.”
Senators noted that the country is undertaking extensive work to strengthen the institutional and legal foundations for protecting the rights, freedoms, and legitimate interests of children. At the same time, they emphasized the current need to further enhance measures to safeguard children from violence, including sexual abuse, and to establish clear mechanisms for their participation as witnesses in criminal proceedings.
The law introduces liability for committing indecent acts against children using the Internet. In addition, amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code set limits on the total duration of questioning a minor witness or victim in a single day and regulate the participation of their legal representatives during the interrogation process.
According to senators, the adoption of this law contributes to the prevention of crimes against children, ensures the inevitability of punishment for committed offenses, and provides reliable protection of the rights and legitimate interests of minors.
Following the discussion, the law was approved by the Senate.
