Senate Approves Law Strengthening Penalties for Violations in the Fuel and Energy Sector

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, at its plenary session today, reviewed and approved the Law “On Amendments and Additions to the Criminal Code and the Administrative Liability Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Connection with the Improvement of Measures to Combat Violations in the Fuel and Energy Sector.”

During the discussion, senators noted the recent increase in offenses within the fuel and energy industry and emphasized ongoing efforts to promote energy conservation, efficient use of resources, and improved energy efficiency.

They highlighted the importance of strengthening state control in this sphere and implementing preventive measures against the misuse of electricity, thermal energy, and gas as both fuel and raw material.

The Law introduces stricter criminal liability for violations of electricity, heat, gas, and water usage regulations. In addition, amendments to the Administrative Liability Code aim to correct enforcement inconsistencies, prevent violations by individual entrepreneurs in the use of fuel and energy resources, and enhance the effectiveness of penalties for such offenses.

Senators stressed that the adoption of the Law will help reduce the number of violations related to fuel and energy resources, redirect saved energy supplies to other industrial sectors, boost exports, and reduce dependence on imports.

Following deliberations, the Senate approved the Law.
