Senate approves law “On Countering Extremism”

The document is aimed at ensuring the security of the individual, society and the state against extremism, protecting the constitutional order, the territorial integrity of the Republic of Uzbekistan, preserving civil peace, interethnic and inter-religious harmony.

The law includes basic concepts, principles of counteraction to extremism, directions of counteraction to extremism, the circle of bodies carrying out activities in this sphere, and their powers, measures to counter extremism, as well as responsibility for carrying out extremist activities.

The senators noted that this law will help to increase the legal consciousness and legal culture of the population, to create intolerance towards extremism in the society, to prevent, detect and suppress extremist offenses in a timely manner, and to ensure the principle of the inevitability of responsibility and the implementation of internationally recognized norms and standards. The law is approved by senators.
