Senate Approves Law on Control and Accountability for the Use of Portable Laser Devices

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At its twelfth plenary session, the Senate discussed the Law “On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan.”

Senators noted that with technological development, portable laser devices have become increasingly accessible and are frequently used for entertainment or educational purposes.

However, their illegal or improper use poses a threat to public safety: for instance, laser beams aimed at aircraft crews can distract pilots and increase the risk of aviation incidents, while exposure to law enforcement officers may cause temporary blindness and hinder the prevention of offenses.

The law aims to ensure a safe environment and introduces measures for control, licensing, and penalties for the unlawful use of laser devices.

Specifically, amendments clarify the composition of local law enforcement and checkpoint authorities, the powers of inspectors, procedures for reviewing administrative protocols, and liability for violations of rules governing the use of portable laser emitters.

Senators emphasized that the adoption of the law will enhance the effectiveness of maintaining public order, preventing offenses, and creating a safe environment in local communities.

The law was approved by the Senate.
