Senate Approves Law Expanding Social Services for Persons with Disabilities
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At a plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, lawmakers discussed a law “On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan,” aimed at improving the system of social protection for citizens.
Senators noted that extensive efforts are ongoing in the country to expand support measures for persons with disabilities and to create additional opportunities for them, including strengthening guarantees of the rights of the most vulnerable segments of the population. Particular attention is being paid to the development of social services for children with disabilities and to ensuring equal access to such services.
Under the law, payments of up to 3 million soums per month per child made by parents who use day-care services for children with disabilities will be exempt from personal income tax. In addition, enterprises providing such services to children aged three to eighteen under public-private partnership arrangements will be exempt from all types of taxes until January 1, 2030, with the exception of the mandatory social tax.
The scope of citizens entitled to free use of public transportation is also being expanded. Senators emphasized that state institutions plan to employ women who have suffered from violence and harassment, provided they possess the necessary knowledge and skills.
During the discussion, it was emphasized that the law is intended to broaden the range of social services available to persons with disabilities, create additional conveniences for socially vulnerable groups, and ensure their labor rights. Following the debate, the document was approved by the Senate.
