Senate and UNFPA Agree on Joint Recommendations for Gender Safety

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Members of the Senate Committee of the Oliy Majlis on Youth, Women, Culture, and Sports held a meeting with the delegation of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) office in Tashkent. Specialists from relevant ministries and agencies also participated in the discussion.

The main focus of the meeting was a UNFPA analytical report reviewing national legislation on gender-based violence involving technology. The document emphasizes ensuring the safety of women and girls in the digital environment, the need for effective legal measures against online violence, and the improvement of Uzbekistan’s regulatory framework.

During the discussions, participants examined ongoing legislative reforms, national initiatives, and innovative practices to promote gender equality and protect women from all forms of violence, including digital threats and harassment.

The report also considered international experience and practices from other countries in combating technology-facilitated gender-based violence. Participants noted that the document could serve as an important foundation for further improving national legislation.

Following the meeting, both sides agreed to strengthen cooperation and jointly develop recommendations and proposals aimed at enhancing legal protection for women in the digital space.
