The OIC member countries welcomed the offer of the Government of Uzbekistan to host the 2nd OIC Summit on Science and Technology in Uzbekistan, the Astana Declaration of the First OIC Summit on Science and Technology said.

“We authorize the General Secretariat of OIC and COMSTEC (the OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technical Cooperation) to begin with the Government of Uzbekistan necessary preparations for convening of the 2nd OIC Summit on Science and Technology in Uzbekistan,” the declaration read.

Speaking at the summit in Astana, Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed his readiness to host the next OIC Summit dedicated to development of science and technology.

“Taking into account importance of scientific and technical progress for sustainable economic development and ensuring a decent standard of living for population of our countries, I propose to hold the OIC Summit on Science and Technologies every three years, and if this proposal is supported, we are ready to hold the next summit in Uzbekistan in 2020”, he added.
