SDP “Adolat” Faction Calls for Legal Assessment of Those Responsible for Mass Poisoning of Kindergarten Children

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The faction of the Social Democratic Party “Adolat” in the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis submitted a parliamentary inquiry to the General Prosecutor’s Office regarding the mass cases of food poisoning among children in kindergartens of Tashkent Region, the party’s press service reported.

Earlier, it was reported that children from kindergartens in the Pskent and Bukin districts were hospitalized with signs of food poisoning. Preliminary data indicate that the cause may have been low-quality kefir. Epidemiological investigations are ongoing. As of the evening of September 25, 109 children, mainly from Akkurgan district, were in hospitals.

According to the latest data from the Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare Committee, by the morning of September 26, 941 cases were registered in the region, 22 of which were of moderate or severe severity.

In their inquiry, the parliamentarians demanded a legal assessment of the actions of those involved in the mass poisoning and emphasized the need to protect the rights and interests of children.

The party noted that the incident is not only a medical and sanitary issue but also a “socially alarming problem.” “The health, life, and future of our children must be the top priority. Insufficient control over the quality of food provided to children has been the main cause of this situation,” the SDP “Adolat” stated.

Party representatives stressed that strict compliance with standards, regulations, and sanitary norms in areas affecting children’s health is the direct responsibility of every producer and supplier. They believe the incident highlights the need to expand mechanisms for public oversight and transparent monitoring of producers and suppliers.

The situation is under the control of the party’s political council and parliamentary faction. A working group, including deputies and local kengashes, has begun investigating the circumstances to determine all causes and factors that led to the mass poisoning.

“All causes leading to this situation must be thoroughly investigated, and those responsible must be held accountable. At the same time, state control over food safety must be radically strengthened,” the party emphasized.
