SCO members discuss issues of combating terrorism in Tashkent
Representatives of special services and law enforcement bodies, responsible for combating terrorism, of Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyz Republic, China, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan (all member states) and Afghanistan, Iran, Mongolia, Pakistan (observer states), as well as Executive Committee of the SCO RATS participated in the conference.
The participants exchanged opinion on levels of terrorism, extremism and other threats to the SCO member states and observer states in context of the growth of the activities of the terrorism organizations in Middle East and Northern Africa, withdrawal of the international security forces from Afghanistan in 2014.
The conference participants also noted that the SCO member states achieved to strengthen their ties and they have close positions on discussed issues.
The participants expressed their readiness to constructive cooperation in supporting peace and stability in the world in cooperation with international and regional organizations, as well as the states, which respect goals, tasks and principles of the SCO. The SCO members also called to abolish “double standards” in relation of international terrorism organizations.
The SCO member states expressed interest in holding similar conferences on annual bases.
The participants expressed readiness to boost implementation of the SCO convention on fighting terrorism, separatism and extremism and the SCO Convention against terrorism. They also called to include the SCO observer states to cooperation within the organization.
Within the conference, some the SCO member states and observer states held bilateral meetings. The delegations also visited several sights in Tashkent city.
Next session of the SCO member states and observer states within the Executive Committee of the SCO RATS will be held in 2014.
