SCO Knowledge Room Opens at Alisher Navoi National Library

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 26 November 2019, an opening ceremony of the Knowledge Room of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was held at the Alisher Navoi National Library of Uzbekistan.

The event was attended by representatives of the SCO Center for Public Diplomacy in Uzbekistan, the Chinese SCO Committee on Neighborhood, Friendship and Cooperation, the Office of the OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan, and the National Library of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi, the public and the media.

Member of the Senate Oliy Majlis, Director of the Center for Public Diplomacy of the SCO in Uzbekistan, Rakhmatulla Nazarov, opening the ceremony, noted that this Center was created on the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and envisages the use of public diplomacy mechanisms to strengthen Uzbekistan’s ties with the countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. In accordance with the Roadmap of activities, the SCO Center for Public Diplomacy in Uzbekistan jointly with the Alisher Navoi National Library of Uzbekistan organized the SCO Knowledge Room, which is accessible to members of the general public, specialists, and readers.

Tsui Li, Deputy Chairman of the SCO China Committee on Neighborhood, Friendship and Cooperation, in her speech emphasized the importance of public diplomacy in cooperation with civil society and foreign audiences. It includes diverse activities, international relations and contacts through the implementation of cultural, scientific, educational programs, the exchange of delegations, the holding of art exhibitions, music festivals, and art festivals.

The SCO Knowledge Room presents a diverse literature of about 300 titles in Uzbek, Chinese, Russian and other languages of various subjects, which acquaints readers with the culture, national traditions and customs, and the history of the peoples of the SCO member countries.

The SCO countries are not only countries - members of this organization, but also observer countries and partners of the SCO, a total of 18 states.

Also, as part of this event, the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Cooperation between the National Library of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi and the SCO Center for Public Diplomacy in Uzbekistan.
