Scientists to discuss innovation for arid areas
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) --
The Second international conference on arid lands will be held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on 9-13 September 2014, the State Committee of Uzbekistan for Nature Protection said.
The main topic of the forum is innovation for sustainability and food security in arid and semiarid areas.
The participants will discuss such issues as climate, biodiversity, environmental services, land and water management technologies to combat desertification, agriculture on saline lands, economic benefits of dry lands and others.
The forum will be presented innovations in the field of natural, agricultural, and social sciences, aimed at overcoming the problems of desertification and threats to food security in this changing world.
One of the objectives of the event is to evaluate ecosystem services in arid areas, identify opportunities for livestock development and improvement of living standards.
