Sanctions Not Halt Construction of Nuclear Power Plant in Uzbekistan — Atomstroyexport
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The imposition of sanctions against the Russian state corporation Rosatom will not affect the construction of the nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan.
This was stated on 23 December by Pavel Bezrukov, Vice President and Project Director for the NPP construction in Uzbekistan at Atomstroyexport, during a public hearing.
A Spot correspondent asked how potential sanctions could impact the integrated nuclear power plant project in Jizzakh Region, where Rosatom serves as the general contractor.
“Firstly, we have been under sanctions for a long time—not Rosatom itself, but the country as a whole. Rosatom has localized all critically important components of the plant, so the introduction of sanctions will in no way affect the construction of the nuclear power plant,” Bezrukov explained.
At the end of September, Uzatom and Rosatom agreed on a new project configuration. The plan includes the construction of two large-capacity units based on Generation 3+ VVER-1000 reactors and two small-capacity units with RITM-200N reactors, each with a capacity of 55 MW.
Thus, the total capacity of the integrated nuclear power plant will exceed 2.1 GW: the large station — 2 GW, the small — 110 MW.
