Samson Sky and AIR Tashkent Agree to Bring Switchblade Flying Car to the Uzbekistan Market
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbek company AIR Tashkent and American company Samson Sky have announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding providing for the introduction of the Switchblade flying car to the markets of Uzbekistan and Central Asia more broadly.
The document was signed at the grand opening of AIR Tashkent's Easy to Fly Academy, which will train the next generation of aviation professionals.
A key provision of the memorandum is an agreement under which AIR Tashkent will assist Samson Sky in selling no fewer than 300 Switchblade flying cars within Uzbekistan, with the total value of potential deliveries exceeding 60 million US dollars.
Anna V. Grebenshchikova, a former aerobatic pilot and Samson Sky ambassador, played an instrumental role in bringing the two sides together. She noted that the initiative took shape in 2024 as an idea to develop private aviation in Uzbekistan and has now moved into the practical stage of introducing innovative solutions such as the Switchblade flying sports car.
AIR Tashkent plans to purchase a portion of the 300 flying cars wholesale for use in pilot training, both for private and commercial operations. Under the agreement, Samson Sky will provide support in pilot training using its own flight simulators, as well as in training technical specialists for Switchblade maintenance and operation.
Samson Sky will also work alongside AIR Tashkent and Uzbek government agencies to certify the Switchblade for operation on both public roads and in the country's airspace.
It is noted that the Switchblade has already completed successful flights in the United States and is currently entering serial production.
Samson Sky founder and CEO Sam Bousfield highlighted that the Switchblade could deliver significant advantages for Uzbekistan through rapid regional mobility and holds strong potential for both domestic and international travel.
AIR Tashkent Deputy Director Anvar Sulaymonov, for his part, emphasized that the partnership between the two companies represents a major step forward for general aviation and will create a technological bridge between the United States and Uzbekistan.
The Switchblade flying car, which completed its first official flight in November 2023, is a hybrid-electric vehicle with sports car performance characteristics. It accelerates from zero to 60 miles per hour in five seconds, reaches a top ground speed of 125 miles per hour and a cruising flight speed of 160 miles per hour. Running on premium gasoline, it can travel up to 500 miles at an altitude of 13,000 feet on a single tank of fuel.
For safety purposes, all lifting surfaces retract into the body when driving on roads. The vehicle fits in a standard garage and can drive itself to the nearest airfield. Switching from road mode to flight mode takes approximately three minutes and is accomplished at the press of a single button.
AIR Tashkent is Uzbekistan's first private company offering premium personalized aviation services. Built on the principles of safety, reliability, and comfort, the company operates a modern fleet, maintains well-developed technical infrastructure, and is supported by a professional team. The AIR Tashkent concept is rooted in the idea of freedom of movement — the ability to choose one's own routes, dates, and departure times.
