Samarkand hosts the Second International “Navro‘z Regata” Festival
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Spring marks renewal, hope, and joy, and in Uzbekistan, this season is closely tied to Navruz, an ancient celebration symbolizing harmony, unity, and nature’s rebirth.
One of the festival’s key events was the Second International “Navro‘z Regata”, held at the Silk Road Samarkand tourism complex. The festival blended tradition and modernity, sports and culture, becoming a true symbol of friendship and international cooperation.
A Celebration of Culture and Sport
From the early morning, the Eternal City embankment transformed into a vibrant public festivity space. Guests enjoyed theatrical performances, energetic national dances, ethnic games, and creative workshops.
Adding to the festive spirit were colorful kites, breathtaking acrobatic stunts by Tik Tur Brothers, and exquisite Eastern cuisine.
Fashion shows featuring renowned brands such as Happy Bird, Hamida Inoyatova Art Fashion, and Shadi by Dilbar & Sitora drew special attention. The collections seamlessly fused traditional patterns with modern designs, highlighting the distinctive beauty of Eastern aesthetics.
The festival’s dynamic program also included performances by talented students from the Samarkand International University of Technology (SIUT) and live music from Edem and Sun Gold, filling the air with energy and positivity.
Dragon Boat Parade – The Grand Finale
The highlight of the festival was the dragon boat parade, attracting thousands of spectators. The event featured SIUT professors from various countries, local organizations, and professional rowers from Uzbekistan’s Rowing & Canoe Federation. The synchronized paddling, rhythmic drumbeats, and powerful team spirit made for an unforgettable spectacle.
"It’s an honor to be part of this celebration. Uzbekistan is a unique country, and Samarkand’s beauty and hospitality are truly captivating," said Jimbo Klaver from Cameroon.
"Navruz and Samarkand are endless sources of inspiration. I’ve lived here for three years, and each time, the city amazes me anew," noted Annamari Besson from South Africa.
A Growing Global Tradition
The Navro‘z Regata has now become a cherished annual event attracting visitors from across the globe. This year, congratulatory messages were sent by Frédéric Beuperti Bressan, Chairman of the Association for the Study of Timurid Culture and Art in Paris, and Joseo Jun Mo Kana, Vice President of SIUT University.
By celebrating Navruz through cultural and sports events, the festival preserves traditions while strengthening international ties, reaffirming its status as a festival of friendship and unity.
