Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —The fifth meeting of the Commission for Cooperation between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Senate of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan was held in Samarkand.

The event was attended by the Chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbaeva, the Chairperson of the Senate of Kazakhstan, Maulen Ashimbaev, and members of the joint commission.

Opening the meeting, Tanzila Narbaeva noted the current state and prospects for developing allied relations between the two countries, emphasizing the vital role of inter-parliamentary interaction in strengthening strategic partnership. According to her, the traditions of friendship and good neighborliness between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are now being filled with concrete practical substance.

Maulen Ashimbaev, in turn, stressed that the leaders of the two states—Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev—are setting a high dynamic for bilateral cooperation, in which inter-parliamentary ties occupy a prominent place.

During the meeting, the commission discussed expanding trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian interaction. Significant attention was paid to joint efforts in addressing environmental challenges, including the situation in the Aral Sea region and the protection of the Aral ecosystem. The implementation of educational projects in the fields of science and ecology was also a key focus.

The parties exchanged views on expanding joint initiatives and deepening mutually beneficial cooperation. The co-chairs of the commission—Sodyq Safoev, First Deputy Chairperson of the Senate of Uzbekistan, and Zhakip Asanov, Deputy Chairperson of the Senate of Kazakhstan—presented reports on the current state of Uzbek-Kazakh relations and prospects for their further development.

Furthermore, the participants reviewed directions for cooperation in political, energy, and educational sectors, as well as the "green" economy. It was emphasized that inter-parliamentary cooperation plays a crucial role in providing the legislative framework necessary to implement agreements reached at the highest level.

The meeting concluded with a review of the progress made on previously reached agreements, with both sides confirming their readiness to further strengthen inter-parliamentary interaction.
