Saida Mirziyoyeva Calls for Stronger Practical Measures to Protect Women and Children from Violence
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva has stated that it is necessary to move from declarations to real action in the field of protecting the rights of women and children and combating violence.
According to her, Uzbekistan became the first country in Central Asia to adopt a law on countering domestic violence and to tighten liability for sexual crimes against children. However, she stressed that these steps are insufficient without the creation of an effective system for rapid response to every instance of violence.
Mirziyoyeva noted that the real situation often remains hidden, as responsible institutions fear negative statistics, sanctions, and criticism. She said that the desire to “look good” frequently replaces an honest analysis of problems and hinders the adoption of timely decisions.
“Today, together with responsible officials, we discussed issues related to the protection of the rights of women and children, combating violence, its causes, and measures to prevent early pregnancy. I urge everyone to draw conclusions from this discussion,” she emphasized.
The Head of the Presidential Administration stated that the fight against all forms of violence must not be formal, but practical, with real accountability and effective mechanisms to protect victims.
“A human life is far more important than statistics,” Saida Mirziyoyeva stressed, calling for the interests and safety of women and children to be placed at the center of state policy.
