Russian Ambassador Highlights Uniqueness of Strategic Partnership with Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The depth and scope of Russia–Uzbekistan relations remain an example unmatched by many other countries, Russian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Alexey Erkhov said.
On Friday, a roundtable titled “Uzbekistan–Russia: Twenty Years of Allied Relations and New Horizons of Cooperation” opened at the International Central Asia Institute (MICA) in Tashkent. The event, organized jointly by MICA and the Russian Embassy, marks the 20th anniversary of the Treaty on Allied Relations between Russia and Uzbekistan, signed in Moscow on November 14, 2005.
In his speech, Ambassador Erkhov emphasized that bilateral relations are founded on equality, mutual respect, and consideration of each other’s interests. “Our political and trade-economic ties, in terms of depth and scale, set a standard unattainable for many other states,” the ambassador noted, stressing that this constitutes a full-fledged strategic partnership and alliance, reinforced by a “privileged regime of mutually beneficial cooperation.”
The diplomat recalled that a key task at this stage is implementing the decisions adopted during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s state visit to Uzbekistan from 26–28 May 2024. “Following the visit, the shared commitment to developing comprehensive cooperation in the interests of our countries and peoples was reaffirmed. A roadmap was approved, outlining deeper collaboration between our nations,” Erkhov said.
The roundtable in Tashkent served as an important platform to discuss bilateral cooperation encompassing political, trade-economic, humanitarian, and cultural spheres, as well as prospects for further deepening the strategic partnership.
