Russia, Uzbekistan expand cooperation in transport

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Russia and Uzbekistan are continuing to expand cooperation in the transport sector, which was one of the key topics at the sixth meeting of the Joint Commission at the level of the two countries’ prime ministers. Russian Transport Minister Andrei Nikitin outlined current results and future plans.

According to him, transport volumes between the two countries are showing steady growth. In the railway segment, freight traffic increased by 19.3% in 2025, while in the first two months of 2026 growth reached 32%.

In civil aviation, the frequency of regular flights between Russia and Uzbekistan exceeds 300 per week. Passenger traffic surpassed 2 million people last year.

The minister noted that these results are seen as a foundation for further cooperation. Among the priorities is the participation of the Russian side in high-speed rail projects, including the transfer of expertise in the construction and operation of such lines.

Particular attention is also being paid to the digitalization of the transport sector. This includes the development of an aviation service platform designed as an independent system for the exchange of aviation messages.

In addition, the introduction of navigation seals is ongoing. These are already used within the Eurasian Economic Union, with more than 15,000 shipments carried out using this technology.

According to Andrei Nikitin, the two sides have prepared a comprehensive roadmap outlining further steps to develop cooperation in the transport sector.
