Russia Strikes Ukrainian Targets Using “Oreshnik” System
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Russian Ministry of Defense announced large-scale strikes on targets in Ukraine in response to what it described as an attempted attack on President Vladimir Putin’s residence in Novgorod Region.
According to the ministry, the strikes employed long-range precision weapons launched from land and sea platforms, including the mobile medium-range ground-based missile system “Oreshnik” and armed drones.
The reported targets included drone production facilities allegedly used in the attack on the Russian presidential residence, as well as key Ukrainian energy infrastructure. The Russian defense ministry claimed that all objectives were successfully hit and warned that “any terrorist actions by the criminal Ukrainian regime will not go unanswered.”
Earlier, Russian authorities reported that on 28 December, Ukrainian forces allegedly launched 91 drones from the Sumy and Chernihiv regions in an attack on Putin’s residence. One drone reportedly carried a six-kilogram explosive payload. Moscow stated that the raid was carefully planned and executed in stages, though the residence remained undamaged and no casualties were reported. Some drones were reportedly shot down over Bryansk, Smolensk, and Novgorod regions.
In the early hours of Friday, Ukrainian media reported a series of explosions in Kyiv and Lviv. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed damage to critical infrastructure and localized power outages in several districts.
Official Kyiv has denied any attack on Putin’s residence. President Volodymyr Zelensky called the Russian claims false and suggested they may be connected to preparations for a strike on Kyiv’s government quarter. He added that such statements from Moscow are aimed at undermining progress in peace talks with the United States and called on U.S. President Donald Trump to “appropriately respond to Russian threats.”
