Round table with well-known domestic entrepreneurs, independent economic observers, experts takes place
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 28 March, a round table was held at the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade with well-known domestic entrepreneurs, independent economic observers, experts and representatives of the information space.
The meeting, which took place in a talk format, covered a wide range of issues of the country’s economic policy, including investment and trade and economic activities, current problems of small and medium-sized businesses, and key moments in the regulation of foreign economic processes.
The roundtable participants attempted to look at the reforms and transformations carried out in the country in recent years, through the eyes of a foreign investor, a local businessman, exporter, importer and consumer, which made it possible to comprehensively study the systemic problems and challenges facing the national economy and develop options for an adequate response to these states are represented by interested ministries and departments.
The parties agreed that for sustainable economic development at present there is an urgent need to consolidate the efforts of the state and the private sector in forming a common vision for the future of the country, defining key benchmarks and building a unified investment and trade and economic strategy.
It was noted that it is necessary to introduce modern methods of regulatory response in the lawmaking process, which will make it possible to avoid possible mistakes already at the early stage of the implementation of the regulatory act.
There were opinions about the continuity and close relationship of the economic situation in the country, bearing in mind the equivalence of each market participant in various segments.
In particular, the discussion focused on alternatives for optimizing the activities of existing free economic zones, with a view to improving the efficiency of benefits and preferences provided and the elimination of unnecessary administrative barriers for resident enterprises.
With a critical analysis, the roundtable participants approached a draft decree on monitoring the export prices of fruit and vegetable and textile products, noting a number of significant aspects that could significantly affect both the business environment for exporters and ultimately domestic pricing.
The possible scenarios of tariff regulation of imports have been studied in depth, which at the moment, given the integration processes for Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO, is of strategic importance and can predetermine the country’s foreign trade policy for many years ahead and therefore requires a scrupulous approach to assessing the possible consequences.
Particular emphasis was placed on the need to strengthen the image of Uzbekistan in the international arena, forming a coordinated marketing strategy for the country, which will include the active participation of representatives of the republic in large-scale international investment platforms and similar events in Uzbekistan, including in the format ".
At the end of the meeting, the participants expressed their willingness to participate in such events on a similar basis, noting the effectiveness of a tandem of government, business and public representatives in assessing current processes in the country’s socio-economic life and developing promising proposals for their optimization.
