Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Representatives of the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Republic of Latvia at the invitation of the Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Communications Uldis Reimanis visited the industrialized city of Liepaja in order to enhance bilateral cooperation.
Meetings were held with the mayor of Liepaja Janis Vilnitis, other officials, representatives of business and business circles. In particular, the visit's program included a visit to the Liepaja Special Economic Zone (LSEZ), negotiations with top managers of iCotton, specializing in deep processing of cotton and the production of hygiene and cosmetology products, familiarization with the state of Liepajas Trans Storage warehouses.
During the meeting held at the City Hall, the sides paid attention to issues of interaction in the cultural and humanitarian sphere. The possibilities of establishing closer ties between the universities of our country and the Liepaja University, which specializes in training personnel in the field of social sciences, including pedagogy, art history, as well as engineering and mechanics, are examined.
According to the Embassy, the city leadership expressed interest in a significant increase in students and students from Uzbekistan at universities in Liepaja.
The parties also exchanged experiences on countering the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19 and in combating its negative social and economic consequences.
As part of a visit to the city, representatives of the diplomatic mission also examined in detail the work of the LSEZ and the Liepaja port, which has the largest terminal in the Baltic Sea.
Following the meeting, a number of agreements were reached to expand the range of exports from Uzbekistan to Latvia.
