Regional seminar on trademarks completed in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 22-23 November 2017, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in cooperation with the Agency for Intellectual Property of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan conducted a regional seminar on “The importance of obtaining legal protection of trademarks and service marks from the perspective of development of small and medium-sized businesses”.

The event was attended by WIPO experts, representatives from India, Lebanon, Belarus, Azerbaijan, the Russian Federation, as well as specialists from the Agency, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, patent attorneys and entrepreneurs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The purpose of the seminar was to familiarize participants with the recent changes and activities of WIPO in support of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and importance of legal protection of trademarks for entrepreneurial activities, including study and analysis of national and international legislation, international treaties, exchange of experience between domestic and foreign experts in this field.

During the seminar, the participants of the seminar widely discussed the rights to trademarks. Reports of foreign and Uzbek experts were heard.

The round tables discussed issues related to creation and development of the brand, creation of an instrumental base of support services: basic IP services provided by business support institutions in the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Evgeny Sesitsky, Program Manager of Section for the Caucasus, Central Asia and Eastern Europe of WIPO, stressed that all activities carried out by the Agency on Intellectual Property serve as a kind of incentive for inventors and entrepreneurs of the country and inspire them to continue work on further developing and strengthening processes, related to the creation of intellectual property, as well as more effective management of intellectual property.

The event was very useful for all participants as it contributed to the study of foreign experience of India, Lebanon, Belarus, Azerbaijan, the Russian Federation on legal protection of trademarks and service marks. The participants shared their opinions on existing problems.
