Regional Security Priorities in Central Asia Discussed In Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An international conference titled “Regionalism and Stability: Ensuring Security in Central Asia Amid Global Transformations” was held in Tashkent. The event was organized by the University of Military Security and Defense in cooperation with the OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan.
The conference brought together representatives of government agencies, international organizations, diplomatic missions and academia.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, the OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan, Ambassador Antti Karttunen, noted that modern challenges require a broad and multi-layered understanding of security.
“Security is not limited to military capacity. It encompasses resilient state institutions, stable economic growth, environmental sustainability, the rule of law and human well-being. Genuine security is possible in a society where trust in state structures is combined with active cooperation with neighboring countries,” the diplomat emphasized.
He also stressed that the OSCE’s multidimensional approach — covering political-military, economic-environmental and human dimensions — forms a solid basis for coordinating efforts and strengthening stability across the region.
Participants examined a wide range of security-related issues in Central Asia, including the development of regional cooperation mechanisms, enhancing resilience to cyberthreats, combating transnational organized crime, the impact of climate change on security, and strengthening trust and openness between state institutions and society.
The conference served as a platform for sharing experience, presenting research findings and formulating recommendations aimed at reinforcing security in a rapidly changing global environment.
