Reforms in Uzbekistan discussed at roundtable in Berlin
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A roundtable “Uzbekistan in the process of transformation. Reform policy: expectations and prospects” was held in Berlin, which was attended by parliamentarians, representatives of research and academic circles, the media, the business community and the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.

The event was organized with the assistance of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Berlin as part of a visit of the delegation of Uzbekistan to Germany. The delegation includes representatives of the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Research under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Information and Analytical Center for International Studies (IAMMC), the Center for Development Strategy, the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, the staff of the Security Council under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan.

The aim of the round table was to inform the political, public and expert circles of Germany about implementation of the Strategy of Action for 2017-2022, foreign policy initiatives of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Sh. Mirziyoyev, as well as working out proposals on expanding mutually beneficial Uzbek-German cooperation.

During the event, the German officials and representatives welcomed the reforms in Uzbekistan and the Strategy of Action for 2017-2022.

The German side also received information about administrative reforms, as well as transformation of judicial system.

The German Bundestag deputy Christian Hirthe highlighted the focus of the policy of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on ensuring reliable protection of human rights and freedoms. That is why, according to his estimates, the ongoing reforms enjoy the full support of the people of Uzbekistan.

According to the Regional Director for Central Asia of the Eastern Committee of the German Economy Eduard Kinsbruner, the German business community welcomes Uzbekistan’s efforts to liberalize the foreign exchange market, ensure the protection of property rights, create a competitive environment, reduce the state’s role in the economy, develop public-private partnerships, and expansion of regional cooperation.

He stressed that the reforms in Uzbekistan were highly appreciated by the World Bank, which included the republic in the top ten countries with the highest rates of economic reforms. This, in his opinion, creates favorable conditions for further deepening of trade, economic and investment cooperation between Uzbekistan and Germany. The deputy of the German Bundestag, member of the parliamentary faction of the ruling parties of the CDU / CSU, Dr. Joachim Pfeifer, said that Uzbekistan has every chance to become a "new economic tiger" in Central Asia. He noted the growing interest of the German business community in the development and implementation of joint projects in such promising areas as alternative energy, information technology, health and tourism. During the event the presentation of the main results of the high-level international conference under the aegis of the UN on Central Asia, organized at the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, was held on 10-11 November in Samarkand. According to German experts, today Uzbekistan’s foreign policy makes an invaluable contribution to the expansion of regional cooperation, ensuring security and sustainable development in Central Asia.
