Rahmon Reviews Uzbekistan’s Light Industry Potential
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, accompanied by President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, assessed the potential of Uzbekistan’s light industry during a visit to the Bukhara region.
The heads of state visited the Nigora textile factory, part of the cotton-textile cluster Merganteks. The enterprise was established under a $35 million investment project and provides a full production cycle — from cotton processing to the manufacture of finished fabrics and clothing.
Products under the Shoyigul brand are primarily aimed at European markets, including Italy, Austria, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
The factory has created 840 jobs and is equipped with modern high-tech machinery from China, Germany, and Belgium, meeting international standards. The second phase of development includes launching production of synthetic fibers and related products.
During the visit, the leaders toured the company showroom and reviewed the range of finished products.
The Tajik delegation highly praised the quality of the factory’s goods, with annual exports reaching US$10 million.
Following the visit, both leaders emphasized the importance of further expanding industrial cooperation and strengthening partnerships between enterprises in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
