Radwanska, Begu, Vekic, Birnerova reach semifinals at Tashkent Open
In one of the best contested matches at the Olympic Tennis School the second seeded Urszula Radwanska had to bring out every fibre of strength to scrape past a fighting seventh seeded Alexandra Panova of Russia winning 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (3) in a match lasting 3 hours and 5 minutes.
On a day of upsets Irina -Camelia Begu of Romania continued her good run in the event to come back from a 2-5 deficit to register a 3-6, 7-6 (1), 7-5 win over eighth seeded Galina Voeskoboeva of Kazakhstan in 3 hours, while qualifier Donna Vekic of Croatia made it to her first career semifinal scoring a 6-4, 6-4 straight set win over sixth seeded Bojana Jovanovski.
Last year’s finalist Eva Birnervo caused the other upset of the day out hitting fifth seeded Alexandra Cadantu of Romania 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 for a place in the last four stage.
