Public Hearings on Nuclear Power Plant Project to Begin in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan will soon launch a program of public hearings on the proposed construction of nuclear power plants.

This was announced by Azim Akhmedkhadjayev, Director of the Agency for Atomic Energy (“Uzatom”), during the international forum “World Atomic Week” in Moscow.

He stated that a comprehensive conceptual program has been prepared, involving a large number of domestic and international experts. Their task is to thoroughly explain to the public the goals and objectives of the upcoming project.

“In any case, without public opinion, we will not move forward,” Akhmedkhadjayev emphasized.

He noted that the main aim of the hearings is to receive feedback from the population and make the necessary adjustments to the project based on the suggestions received.

The head of Uzatom also reported that residents of Jizzakh Region support the construction of the nuclear power plant and are looking forward to the start of work.

According to him, the population views the project as an important factor for regional development and improving quality of life.
