Public Hearings on Nuclear Power Plant in Jizzakh Region Scheduled for November–December 2025

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Public hearings on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan are scheduled for November–December of this year.

This was announced on 6 October by Abdujamil Kalmuratov, head of the Directorate for the Construction of the Nuclear Power Plant, during a press tour at the future site in the Farish district of Jizzakh region.

Kalmuratov noted that the site has been studied from an environmental perspective since 2018. Research has been conducted on local flora and fauna, groundwater and air quality, as well as meteorological and seismic data. Specialized design institutes were involved to assess the project’s environmental impact (EIA).

The public hearings will be conducted in a question-and-answer format, followed by a vote. Participation is open to all interested parties, including journalists and foreign representatives. Officials from the Jizzakh regional hokimiyat will also attend.

Responding to a question about the possibility of terminating the contract with the Russian company Rosatom, Kalmuratov emphasized that a full termination is not being considered, but project or contract modifications could occur based on the discussions.

He stressed that the construction of the NPP has a socio-economic purpose and is a flagship project that will significantly impact the region’s economic development.
