Prosecutor’s Office Employees Detained for Bribery in Tashkent Region
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Law enforcement authorities have halted the illegal activities of several employees of the Prosecutor’s Office in the Tashkent region.
During an operative operation in Bekabad, the head of the district office of the Department for Combating Economic Crimes under the General Prosecutor’s Office and a senior operative officer of the city office were detained while receiving a bribe of US$25,000.
According to the investigation, the suspects had promised to influence the outcome of a criminal case in favor of four unofficial heads of limited liability companies (LLCs) from the Zangiota district and to ensure that two desk tax audits conducted by the Sirdarya Regional Tax Department against those firms were declared unlawful.
Earlier, the same officers reportedly received US$108,000 from one of the unofficial company heads in exchange for reducing the assessed tax damage amount.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated under Articles 168 (part 4, paragraph “a”), 28, and 211 (part 3, paragraph “a”) of Uzbekistan’s Criminal Code.
