Prosecutor General Supports Tashkent Residents in Dispute Over 30-Story Complex on Grand Mir Hotel Site

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan has sided with Tashkent residents concerned about plans to construct a complex on the site of the Grand Mir Hotel.

On June 27, renderings and a project for three 30-story buildings intended for the hotel’s location were circulated online. According to the plan, the ground floors of the buildings would house shopping and entertainment centers.

Nearly 3,000 residents of the capital opposed the construction, signing a collective appeal submitted to the Presidential Reception, the Cabinet of Ministers, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Construction, the Tashkent Hokimiyat, and the City Council.

Residents of the Bogsaroy neighborhood demanded public hearings and the publication of the project in accessible sources so that the public could review the developer’s commitments and assess potential risks.

According to the Tashkent Hokimiyat, a different hotel had originally been planned for the site. However, the Prosecutor General’s Office emphasized that, under the current General Plan, buildings taller than five stories are prohibited on this plot. The agency also confirmed that no documents regarding the project had been submitted to the Urban Planning Council.

As a result, the Prosecutor General officially supported the residents’ demands, confirming compliance with urban planning regulations and recognizing that plans for a 30-story complex contradict existing legislation.
