Projects on Waste-to-Energy Thermal Processing Discussed
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Aziz Abduhakimov, Adviser to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Ecology and Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, held a series of working meetings dedicated to the implementation of investment projects for the thermal processing of solid municipal waste with subsequent electricity generation.
Negotiations were conducted with representatives of Chinese companies China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd., Shanghai Sus Environment Co., Ltd., and Everbright Environmental Protection Ltd.
The discussions also involved company executives and representatives in Uzbekistan, as well as Sharifbek Khasanov, Director of the Agency for Waste Management and Circular Economy Development.
During the meetings, current stages of project implementation were reviewed, proposals for further advancement were presented, and subsequent steps were outlined, taking into account environmental, technological, and infrastructure requirements.
Special attention was given to compliance with international environmental standards and the effective integration of facilities into the national waste management system.
As part of cooperation with Chinese partners, several large-scale infrastructure projects are being implemented in various regions of the republic:
Everbright Environmental Protection Ltd. — in Namangan and Fergana regions, up to 3,000 tons of waste per day will be processed, generating 454.6 million kWh of electricity annually. The total project cost amounts to US$283 million.
Shanghai Sus Environment Co., Ltd. — in Kashkadarya and Samarkand regions, up to 3,000 tons of waste per day will be processed, producing 480 million kWh of electricity annually. The project is estimated at US$300 million.
China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd. — in Andijan and Tashkent regions, as well as in the city of Tashkent, up to 4,000 tons of waste per day will be processed, generating 630 million kWh of electricity per year. The total investment amounts to US$350 million.
The meetings confirmed the mutual interest of the parties in the phased and consistent implementation of projects aimed at reducing landfill volumes, developing the circular economy, and increasing the share of alternative energy sources in Uzbekistan’s energy balance.
