Price Monitoring: Consciousness takes over

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - Monitoring of the Tashkent markets, organized by the State Tax Committee and the Department under the Prosecutor General’s Office, showed satisfactory results.

Stable prices, especially for food and medical supplies, are an important tool in preventing mass panic and shortages of goods during the quarantine period. For this reason, a headquarters has been created in the bodies of the State Tax Committee, which includes senior officials of all the State Tax Inspectorates, departments, and also the STC.

They have a detailed list of large and medium-sized shopping centers, markets, as well as manufacturers of goods, wholesale suppliers and pharmacies. The paramount task is to monitor cases of overpricing of essential commodities and foodstuffs, preventing price destabilization, and ensuring a regular regime in the field of trade.

On the first day of quarantine declared as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the leadership of the STC in the person of the chairman and his deputies, members of the headquarters, visited the field. In coverage almost all markets of Tashkent - Bektemir, Mirabad, Mirzo-Ulugbek, Chilanzar, Yunusabad and other districts.

Despite Monday, trading is unusually active. Employees of the STC, not taking their citizens from work, talked with entrepreneurs, customers, and market workers. It turned out: the situation with prices in comparison with the excitement of Sunday was taken under control.

According to traders, sales of vegetable oil, potatoes and onions, flour and other bulk products increased. Prices in most cases have remained the same. A slight premium was felt for vegetables and fruits. An explanatory work was carried out with "enterprising" suppliers who artificially raised prices.

Most buyers honestly admitted that they added a few pounds to the traditional weekly purchases for stock. But even with such a significant influx of consumers, the counters were not empty by the middle of the day. High demand remains for garlic, harmal grass, which is popularly called "isirik", as well as personal hygiene products. Rumors of food shortages due to coronavirus are unfounded.

Monitoring of food prices and essential medical supplies continues. Stability in the country can be ensured only through the conscientiousness of all market participants.
