Press Tour in Khorezm: Exploring the Region’s Cultural Heritage and Ecotourism
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — To promote the rich historical heritage and unique natural beauty of Khorezm Region, the Tourism Committee organized a press tour attended by representatives of domestic and international media, as well as popular bloggers.
Participants of the trip explored the region’s distinctive culture, historical monuments, and tourism potential.
Particular interest was drawn to the ancient Kalajik complex (David’s Fortress) located in the Bagat District. Founded in the 4th century BCE, Kalajik’s historical significance is confirmed by numerous archaeological studies.
The fortress, rising among the sand dunes of the Karakum Desert, represents a unique example of ancient defensive architecture. Its double-layered walls and grandiose structures make it an important monument in military history. The surrounding oasis is renowned for its natural resources, ecological purity, and a therapeutic lake.
A significant contribution to the region’s tourism development is made by the “Qalajiqqal’a OAZIS Ecotourism” center, established on the basis of a local farm. Since 2019, the complex has been actively developing and now includes a lake, a zoo, hotels, restaurants, craft shops, recreational areas, and modern infrastructure.
Special attention is given to the resort’s therapeutic offerings. The saline lake, whose unique water prevents drowning, and the healing sand baths are compared to the benefits of the Dead Sea. Under professional supervision, health-improving procedures are conducted here, making Kalajik a sought-after destination not only for domestic tourists but also for inbound tourism.
The press tour confirmed that the Kalajik Ecotourism Complex is a key component in the development of Khorezm’s tourism sector, combining historical heritage with modern wellness opportunities.
